Explanation Writing - What is it???????? WALT - describe the features of explanation writing.
To explain how things work or how something happens e.g. why do things float? how are mountains formed?
When writing explanations we use factual language to give detail and we use technical language related to the topic.
We write in present tense.
We also use cause and effect words. Some examples of these words are:

What is Football
The aim of a football match is to try and get the ball in the back of the net on the opposite side of you. Football is the most common sport in the world there are over 200 countries so you can definitely tell why that is. Football is a game where you have to think if you get the basics right then you will be a good football player, the main thing is that you will have a lot of fun out there on the pitch.
Football has many positions there is a goalie a sweeper four defenders four midfielders and one person playing up forward and three subs. Subs are people that stand on the sideline, that are in your team but the main purposes of subs is that when are person is getting tired on the field and sub can go on the field and let the person who is coming off have a rest.
Yellow cards and red cards are consequences. A yellow card is where you do bad thing like slide tackle and time it wrong, and go in to late or to early but the main purpose for a yellow card is a warning if you get two yellow cards you get a red card which means you get sent off the field for the whole match. A instant red card is where you do something really bad like break a guys leg or something like that.
Offside is where your behind a defender on the oppositions side and the ball gets passed to you and you touch the ball. A football field is 105 meters long now that is pretty long and hard for a game of football. The width of the football ground is 65 yards. There are 2 different types of football boots they are sprigs and blades.
Lets talk about free kicks and penalties, a penalty is a fowl inside the 18 yard box, and is just you and the goalie, you put the ball in the middle of the box shoot and either score or don’t. A free kick is where you are outside the 18 yard box and you just take a kick and try score or just cross it into the 18 yard box.
Therefore Football is a fun game and hard to play but if you get the basics right then it’s the easiest game on the planet. Remember there is a difference between a good footballer and a great footballer.
